Spragga Benz cruises at Footloose

SPRAGGA Benz was in nick form at Footloose – Fashion Ova Style edition held at Mas Camp in Kingston last Saturday night.

The lanky deejay, who emerged on the scene in the early 1990s, ran unchecked through a slate of hits songs, which had the female patrons going wild.

Machine Gun Kelly, Dolly House, Girls Hooray, Things a Gwaan, She Nuh Ready Yet and Funny Guy Thing were some of the songs Spragga Benz pulled on during his set.

The event drew a massive turnout of patrons, who danced the night away to hits of yesteryear courtesy of DJ Liquid, and DJ Arif and the Fresh Team.

“It was a good vibe for me. Overall tonight was a good energy,” said Spragga Benz, who topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart last year with Chilagon, his first album in nine years.

For Georgia Henry, it was her first time seeing her teenage idol performing.

“I love Spragga from I was in high school and when I heard that he was performing, I had to be here. For me, he is the real deal,” Henry told the Observer.

Kedish Suckram, brand manager Stone’s Ginger Wine — title sponsor for the event, reflected on the night’s proceedings.

“It was a very good mix from the product specials that were offered all night, to the musical selection by the DJs, and the performance by one of Jamaica’s dancehall icon’s, Spragga Benz. He had the patrons dancing up a storm,” said Suckram.

It has been six years that Stone’s Ginger Wine has been aligned to the event. Miss Suckram explained the synergy between the brand and the event.

“We see this event as a good fit, as it connects directly with our target consumer. Footloose is an event that partygoers look forward, as it gives them a good reminder of the hit songs from the past that they grew up on,” said Suckram.

She added, “This event appeals to wide cross section of party lovers, from the young to the old, who are seeking to have a good time.”

Promoted by Broadway Productions, Footloose is held four times each year. This is the 14th year of the series.

Jeezy And Jeannie Mai Were Couples Goals At NYFW

Jeezy And Jeannie Mai Were Couples Goals At NYFW

Jeezy and Jeannie Mai are raising a firm hand for relationship goals.

The couple went public with their romance in August last year when they attended the red carpet at the inaugural SnoBall Gala together. A week later, they went social media official with the first Instagram post showing how in love they were, with the “MLK BLVD” rapper standing with his arms around The Real co-host on a beach.

The cute couple moments have continued with the latest being at New York Fashion Week. The pair coordinated their outfits as they attended Christian Siriano’s show, with Jeezy sporting an embroidered two-piece set and black jacket, and Miss Mai looking hot while keeping warm in a dark dress with a leather and fur coat. NYFW is a perfect place for J-squared to spend date night as the 41-year-old previously worked as a stylist, even hosting her own show entitled “How Do I Look?”.

This is the first time we’ve seen Jeannie and Jeezy out and about in 2020. The two have gradually been making their relationship more serious over the last 15 months, having even spent the holidays with their respective families. Christmas took place at the Mai residence where fun and games ensued with the television host’s mother. Mama Mai is quite the character as viewers of Jeannie’s weekly podcast, “Hello Hunnay,” will know, and she stayed true to form during a round of the present-swapping game, White Elephant. The matriarch of the Mai family desperately wanted Jeezy’s cosy pink blanket and agreed to do 20 push-ups and down 4 tequila shots to get her hands on it.

“We both went through enough in our life to connect on the understanding that love should feel safe, honest, and pure,” Jeannie told PEOPLE last November about her and Jeezy’s relationship. “Immediately that was a magnetic attraction. We are very attracted to each other’s passions to serve. So because we have a mutual joy of having purpose, we’re going to find a way to do that together.”

Post Malone Taps Future, Young Thug, Meek Mill For “Hollywood’s Bleeding” Album

Post Malone Taps Future, Young Thug, Meek Mill For “Hollywood’s Bleeding” Album

Post Malone is set to release a new album on September 6th. The album, entitled Hollywood’s Bleeding is highly anticipated and even more so now after Malone posted the artistes involved in the project on his Instagram. The line up includes Da Baby, Future, Halsey, Meek Mill, SZA, Ozzy Osbourne, Swae Lee, and Young Thug.

This line up is star-studded, to say the least, and when coupled with Post Malone’s talent, one would expect perfection. His versatile sounds include hip hop, soul and country music and if this album were a pizza, the toppings look amazing with the features he’s acquired.

The anticipation has also been built by the songs that have already been released from the album. Four songs have previously been released from the 17 track project. Those four tracks being: “Sunflower” featuring Swae Lee, “Wow,” “Circles,” and “Goodbyes” featuring Young Thug. Three of the four songs did well on the Billboard chart with Sunflower peaking at number 1 and also amassing 757 million views on YouTube, while Wow and Goodbyes peaked at number 2 and number 7 respectively. The only song to have not yet received Billboard success is Circles which was released on Tuesday.

It seems then that we have a monstrous project on our hands, which is capable of breaking records in terms of first-week sales and also overall sales. Being his third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding will be a litmus test in proving how much the artist has grown since his inaugural Stoney album in 2016

Many have even gone on to say Post is set to release the album of the year. He already has three absolute bangers, and when you think about the fourteen left in the chamber, you can’t help but think about the Grammy’s, the Billboard Awards and other events of that nature. In recent times Post has become somewhat of a hit factory rivaled only by the music elite, the likes of Drake, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Swae Lee, and Bruno Mars therefore only excellence is expected.

With the album three days away Post has decided to give us Circles. After watching that music video, I fully understand why. The melancholy sounding track, which has an alternative sound, is gripping from start to finish. Its music video has a medieval theme as Malone seeks to be his girls night in shining armor.

Those scenes from the video really hit home with Malone bellowing ( chorus): “Seasons changed and our love went cold/ feed the flame cuz we can’t let go/ Runaway but we running in circles/ Runaway, runaway / I dare you to do something/ I’m waiting on you again/ So I don’t take the blame / Runaway but we running in circles/ Runaway, runaway, runaway.”

An excellent video for a great song and the fans have already approved it. It has shot up to the top of the Spotify U.S. charts with 2.53 million streams stateside easily surpassing Lil Teca’s “Ransom “which took second place with 1.69 million streams. The good times keep rolling for Post Malone, and we can’t wait to hear what he has in store for us on the 6th. We eagerly await Hollywood’s Bleeding, fully trusting this modern genius with the task of providing us with a Classic Album. Until then, get Hollywood’s Bleeding in stores and on digital platforms starting September 6th.

Konshens Making Dancehall Great Again, Speak Out Against Gatekeepers

Konshens Making Dancehall Great Again, Speak Out Against Gatekeepers

Konshens has some stuff to get off his chest about the current state of the culture and the so-called “dancehall gatekeepers.”

The Subkonshus deejay recently sat down with The Star, where he detailed his passion for bringing dancehall back to its roots. In Jamaica, dancehall means different things to different people, and each artist is able to capture and portray their own version of what it means to them. Some artistes even have the ability to be quite diverse and can easily switch back and forth.

These days more and more artistes are leaning towards songs about violence, crime and ‘badness.’ While Konshens has no issues with that, he told The Star, “Life is changing, dancehall is no exception. While I embrace change, I still think it super important to keep our root in dancehall, especially the feel good, uplifting and melodic dancehall with hard drums, powerful snares, good tempo and edgy top lines that the world loves,”

He went on to further explain that the latest trends in dancehall now, are songs being published with a strong Hip Hop influence, which is fine. He even added that his breakout song, “Winner” released back in 2008, is a great example of that, so he’s no novice when it comes to making songs with a hip hop flow. However, “the world hungry for real dancehall at the same time,” he said.

In his goal to bring dancehall back to its roots, Konshens stated that the big names in the business should stop only complaining and be more proactive taking action instead.

“Stop cuss di yute dem say dem ah mash up dancehall. If you leave your little son who is 12 years old in your house and tell him to run it and he decides to keep a ‘trap party’ while you are asleep because ah trap him like, you can’t complain when the house get trashed and police raid it. Better you have a house and give him two or three rooms for him and his friends to enjoy themselves. Stop chat … act,” he said.

The artiste makes a very strong argument. Instead of bashing the new entertainers, industry players should take them under their wing and offer guidance and support. They should empower the artists and motivate them to create music that goes back to the core of what dancehall used to represent.

Konshens went on to detail that his new track Dancehall Love Story, which UrbanIslandz covered after its release, is a step in the right direction.

He said: “I want the outside world to view Jamaica and dancehall music in the happy, sexy, and romantic ways that they once saw it, that is one way I am taking action towards change.”

Konshens went on to mention that the rhythm for his latest song sounded like a dancehall love story. He elaborated stating that while his song is not just solely the romantic concept of a dancehall story, it contains all the aspects he sees in the current dancehall culture. From dancers, selectors, DJs and sound systems and the video definitely portray this.

“It is very common when di foreigner dem fly in and get a dose ah di yute dem flavor, dem get addicted,” he said.

He went on to state that he did not play the main character as he believes the regular everyday men in Jamaica live out the story more than artistes do.

Konshens strongly believes that the video will fulfill its purpose and portray the concept of a dancehall love story. He hopes to enlighten persons who are considering traveling to Jamaica that there is more to experience than the tourist and gangster lifestyle. It’s also possible to fall in love too.
